Christmas Tree Safety

Even though you cut the tree down, a live Christmas tree still needs water to avoid becoming a fire hazard. In addition, if properly maintained a live Christmas tree can last five weeks or more!

  • Check the water level EVERY DAY and add more if needed. Letting the pine needles and branches dry out will make it easier for it to catch fire.
  • If decorating with string lights, only plug up to three strands together.
  • Before leaving the house or going to sleep at night, unplug the lights!
  • Choose the location for your tree carefully. Avoid placing too close to radiators, heaters, fireplaces, and electronics.
  • Avoid decorating with candles and placing open flames too close to the tree.
