Even though you cut the tree down, a live Christmas tree still needs water to avoid becoming a fire hazard. In addition, if properly maintained a live Christmas tree can last five weeks or more!
- Check the water level EVERY DAY and add more if needed. Letting the pine needles and branches dry out will make it easier for it to catch fire.
- If decorating with string lights, only plug up to three strands together.
- Before leaving the house or going to sleep at night, unplug the lights!
- Choose the location for your tree carefully. Avoid placing too close to radiators, heaters, fireplaces, and electronics.
- Avoid decorating with candles and placing open flames too close to the tree.
