Space Heater Safety

Space heaters are a helpful way to bring warmth to drafty room. But these small heaters can become a fire hazard if not used properly.

Make sure the space heater is plugged directly into an outlet on the wall and not into extension cords or power strips. The amount of energy needed to power these devices is too high for extension cords and power strips to handle.

Similar to fireplaces and other heating sources, make sure there is 3 feet of space around the device. It should not be placed close to furniture or other flammable materials.
